INTERPHEX created a quick ques- tionnaire to learn more about Sani-Matic and the technology they are bringing to INTERPHEX
2015. In this exhibitor spotlight, Chris
Sales Manager, answers our questions.
INTERPHEX: Tell us how the company started.
CHRIS MCNULTY (SANI-MATIC): In 1943, Sani-Matic entered the sanitary process cleaning industry by developing
and manufacturing an immersion parts washer to improve
sanitary conditions in dairy production.
INTERPHEX: How has your company evolved into what it
CHRIS MCNULTY (SANI-MATIC): Sani-Matic expanded
beyond immersion parts washers into Clean-In-Place (CIP)
Systems, sanitary components, cabinet washers, tunnel
washers, and more for a variety of markets within the food
and beverage industries.
In 1997, we began serving the pharmaceutical and biotech
industries with Clean-In-Place (CIP) Systems. Two years
later, we developed our patented portable CIP system, the
UltraFlow, which has become an effective system for many
pharmaceutical manufacturers. Based on demand for reliable, validatable cleaning results, our CIP Systems were
soon followed by our pharmaceutical-grade cabinet washers, fully automated immersion parts washers and tunnel
INTERPHEX: How has the industry changed/evolved?
CHRIS MCNULTY (SANI-MATIC): One large industry
change is the decreased acceptance of manual cleaning
methods due to cleaning validation requirements. An effective cleaning process is dependent on consistent, repeatable
performance. And, because even the most dedicated and
experienced operator will err at times, manual cleaning is
an inherent risk to the process. Recent statistics show that
human error is the cause of nearly 80 percent of failures in
life science manufacturing facilities.
Sani-Matic is dedicated to eliminating human error in
the cleaning process through innovative sanitary equip-
ment design and continuous im-
INTERPHEX: Can you describe
three aspects that have allowed your
company to succeed?
CHRIS MCNULTY (SANI-
MATIC): Sani-Matic’s ongoing suc-
cess can be attributed to the follow-
ing three items:
1. We have a long history, deep knowledge and extensive
expertise within the pharmaceutical, food and beverage
industries. This allows a cross-pollination of ideas to create the best solution for our customers’ needs.
2. We design and manufacture a full line of customizable
products that effectively cleans a variety of manufacturing processes—across several industries. We don’t
encourage our customers to fit into our standard product offering, rather, our products are developed to meet
their individual needs. This makes us a strong partner.
3. Our company’s entire focus is on providing sanitary, repeatable, and validatable cleaning results. It is the only
thing we do, so we are able to do it well.
INTERPHEX: What don't most people realize about you or
CHRIS MCNULTY (SANI-MATIC): Most people don’t
realize a majority of the equipment we produce is configurable to meet our customers’ specific needs. We have a
30-person design and engineering department that is continuously developing solutions for our customers’ tough-est cleaning challenges. Although we do have commonly
requested models, each piece of equipment we produce
is configurable to provide the right solution, rather than a
good enough solution.
INTERPHEX: What are you looking forward to at
INTERPHEX this year?
CHRIS MCNULTY (SANI-MATIC): As mentioned previously, we have a large team of engineers and designers
that thrive on solving difficult cleaning challenges. We look
forward to listening to the cleaning questions brought to us
by INTERPHEX attendees so our team can help develop the
solution that is right for them.
