INTERPHEX: Tell us how the company
BENOIT MAHEUX (OPTEL): Optel Vision
was founded 25 years ago. At that time, the
company did not have technologies, but offered
extensive knowledge in electronics, optics, mechanical design
and advanced software applications. Optel Vision’s reputation
was built by meeting our customer’s needs offering complete
vision inspection “solutions”, rather than selling stand-alone
products. Optel Vision developed its name throughout the industry by offering a consulting style approach to professional
project management while developing complete, customized,
turn-key inspection solutions.
Through the years, our company remains aggressive in
developing new technologies and innovative products
such as Optel Vision’s Flying Carton Tracker™; a
cutting-edge carton serialization system.
Our commitment to quality has allowed the
company to produce more than 250 unique modules for Serialization. Optel Vision remains dedicated to delivering complete turnkey solutions in
a timely and efficient manner.
INTERPHEX: How has your company
evolved into what it is today?
BENOIT MAHEUX (OPTEL): Louis
Roy, Optel Vision’s President, set out twen-ty-five years ago, focused on building a new
era for automated vision inspection. Louis and
his team saw the need to be revolutionary in their development, design and manufacturing. With the new regulations to
fight pharmaceutical counterfeiting, the company committed itself to specialize in Track & Trace and
Today, Optel Vision is the world's biggest vision
inspection and Track & Trace provider, proudly
serving 9 out of the 10 largest generic pharma-
ceutical manufacturers worldwide. Optel Vision
is a global company with more than 250 em-
ployees across five continents. The company
recently opened its European headquarters
in Limerick, Ireland, strengthening its pres-
ence throughout Europe, offering localized
support focusing on customer satisfaction.
INTERPHEX: What is your company’s biggest success thus far?
BENOIT MAHEUX (OPTEL): Optel
Vision’s growth has been tremendous the
last few years. The rapid market expansion of
the company is mainly due to its ability to offer effective
turnkey solutions while keeping our customers’ satisfaction at
a high level. “Customer satisfaction is the key to success. It is
the customers that make your company grow,” says Louis Roy,
President of Optel Vision. "Keeping each customer satisfied
while coordinating multiple, complex projects remains a cor-
nerstone of our company; and will be remembered as one of
our greatest achievements," according to Mr. Roy.
INTERPHEX: What is the biggest challenge in your industry?
BENOIT MAHEUX (OPTEL): Optel Vision, along with
other track & trace providers, face great challenges
helping customers meet the ever-changing regulations
and looming deadlines. Serialization and track & trace
solutions represent a considerable investment for the
pharmaceutical companies. In order to save money,
some companies tend to wait to the last minute to
comply with new regulations. Serialized projects are
very complex to design and can take up to eight
months or more, from the purchasing phase up
to the installation and validation at the custom-
Pharmaceutical companies usually do not
realize how long it takes to implement such
solutions on their packaging lines. They do not
imagine all the changes that it creates.
