INTERPHEX created a quick questionnaire to
learn more about Microfluidics International
Corporation and their technology. In this
exhibitor spotlight, Yang Su, New Technology
Manager, answers our questions.
INTERPHEX: How has your company evolved into
what it is today?
Microfluidics International Corporation originated more
than thirty years ago, offering superior solutions to
mission-critical problems within niche markets in the
pharmaceutical, biotechnological, chemical, and other
industries—achieving stable nano/micro particles with the
application of a new fluid flow principle to highly engi-
neered products. The result was the development, man-
ufacture, and marketing of Microfluidizer™ processors.
The product portfolio has since been greatly expanded;
today, our products range from lab-scale to full produc-
tion models. We also satisfy the requirements of the
pharmaceutical industry with cGMP/21CFR 11-compliant
Microfluidizers™.
INTERPHEX: How has the industry changed/evolved?
Su:
Customers are looking for more inclusive systems
from vendors. The equipment should also be easily inte-
grated into their existing systems or plants. Microfluidics’
products have evolved to the extent that designs and fea-
tures are well-positioned for the on-going trends/changes
occurring within the industry.
INTERPHEX: Can you describe three aspects that
have allowed your company to succeed?
1
. Innovation:
The key factor that allows us to stay
ahead of competitors and serve the niche market
with innovative products, utilizing cutting-edge
technology.
2
. Outstanding/Highly Engaged Team:
We represent an
organization that operates within an environment of
team work/collaboration that enables each of us to
be involved in work that brings out our best. This
is reflected in our core values: trust, team, and
excellence.
3
. Effective Operating Model:
The IDEX Operating
Model provides a framework for running a truly great
enterprise, through which we are able to achieve both
our financial and business goals.
INTERPHEX: What distinguishes your company from
others in the industry?
Su:
Our state-of-the-art Microfluidizer™ technology, offer-
ing constant pressure and a proprietary fixed geometry
interaction chamber, delivers the best-in-class process
results, repeatability, and scalability to our customers
worldwide.
INTERPHEX: What don't most people realize about
you or your company?
Su:
Most people don’t realize that microfluidics has noth-
ing to do with the “lab-on-a-chip” version of microfluidic
technology. The only ideology that the two technologies
share is the implementation of microscale domains.
Microfluidizer™ technology generates an extremely high
shear rate and impact forces with high pressure energy,
while conventional microfluidic technology resides on the
opposite end of the spectrum.
INTERPHEX: What are you looking forward to at
INTERPHEX this year?
Su:
I would like to see more technical sessions being
offered so I can learn something new and expand my
knowledge base. As a technical person, I am always in-
terested in seeing what’s new in the market and what
transpires within our industry. As a company, we are con-
tinuously looking for new product offerings/technology
with possible inclusions into our equipment to enable us
to offer the best possible solutions to our customers. n
